France national football team manager Didier Deschamps is returning home mid-tournament following the sudden death of his mother, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Tuesday.

As a result of his urgent departure, Deschamps will not be in the dugout for France’s upcoming Group I clash against Norway, which is scheduled to take place at Gillette Stadium in Boston on June 26.

In an official statement, the federation expressed their deep sorrow and confirmed the manager's immediate travel plans.

"Didier Deschamps will not be in the dugout for the final group match this coming Friday," the FFF statement read. "The coach received the painful news of his mother’s passing this morning. He will return to France to attend the funeral."

The unexpected absence of the World Cup-winning manager leaves a significant void for Les Bleus ahead of their crucial final group fixture. Assistant coach Guy Stéphan is expected to take charge of the team in Deschamps' absence. The FFF, along with the wider footballing community, have extended their deepest condolences to Deschamps and his family during this difficult time.
