Dhaka expresses concern over violence against minorities in India
Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over recent incidents of violence and killings targeting minorities in India and has called for impartial investigations and punishment of those responsible.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson SM Mahbubul Alam conveyed the concern on Sunday, December 28.
He said incidents including brutal killings, mob violence, arbitrary arrests and obstruction of religious ceremonies involving Muslims, Christians and other minorities were deeply worrying.
He cited the killing of Muslim youth Jewel Rana in Odisha, the murder of Muhammad Atahar Hossain in Bihar, the killing of an innocent person in Kerala on suspicion of being Bangladeshi, and several incidents of mob violence against Muslims and Christians.
The spokesperson said Bangladesh was also deeply concerned about incidents of mass violence against Christians across India during Christmas celebrations last week, describing them as hate crimes and targeted violence.
He said Bangladesh expected Indian authorities to conduct impartial investigations and bring perpetrators to justice, stressing that every country has a responsibility to protect the dignity and safety of its minority communities.
