Acting Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pawan Badhe has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry to protest against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's anti-Bangladesh statement.

A formal protest was lodged with Ishrat Jahan, Director General of the South Asia Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at 5pm on Thursday (April 30). A source in the Foreign Ministry confirmed this information.

This is the first time that an Indian envoy has been summoned since the formation of the BNP government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in February.

In a recent interview with Indian media ABP, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "I always pray to God that the situation remains the same as it was during Yunus' time, that relations do not improve."

He also alleged that infiltrators are being pushed into India from Bangladesh in the dark of night.
