A total of 15 wickets fell on the first day of the Dhaka Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand on Wednesday. However, on the second day of the Test on Thursday, not a single ball was bowled due to continuous rain.

As the rain did not stop, the umpires announced the abandonment of the second day's play at 1:56 pm. The third day's play will start on Friday from 9:30 am.

Bangladesh secured a 150-run victory in the first Test of the series against visiting News Zealand in Sylhet. The Tigers on Wednesday entered the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur with aspirations of clinching the series. Although the batter performed badly, the bowlers kept Bangladesh ahead on day 1.

Batting first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 172 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored the highest run for the team, faced an unusual dismissal. After defending the ball, he pushed it with his gloves, leading the third umpire to rule him out. For Bangladesh, Mushfiqur was the first batter to suffer such a dismissal in Tests.

Besides Mushfiq's 35 runs, Shahadat Hossain scored 31 while All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 20 runs. For New Zealand, Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner captured three wickets each while Ajaz Patel took two. In response to Bangladesh's 172, New Zealand are under pressure as they ended the day's play with 55 runs for 5 wickets. Tom Latham (4), Devon Conway (11), Kane Williamson (13), Henry Nicholls (1) and Tom Blundell (0) returned to the pavilion. Mehidy Hasan Miraz captured 3 wickets while Taijul Islam took two.

New Zealand are still 117 runs behind Bangladesh, with only 5 wickets in hand.
