Dhiraj Seth appointed as new chief of Indian Army
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth is set to take charge as the new chief of the Indian Army. He is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff.
According to the Indian Ministry of Defence, current Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will retire on June 30. Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth will assume the responsibility of Army Chief on the same day . He will serve as Army Chief until August 31, 2028 .
The Defence Ministry's notification stated that Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986 after graduating from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla . Over a military career spanning nearly four decades, he has played a significant role in operational, strategic, capability development and institutional domains .
During his military career, he has led various formations, including the command of the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, one of the Indian Army's key strike formations. He subsequently served as the General Officer Commanding of the Delhi Area . He has also held the position of Commander of the South Western Command and the Southern Command .
