Dhonodeb Barman apologises unconditionally in response to show-cause notice
Dr Dhonodeb Chandra Barman, who was served a show-cause notice over an argument with the director general (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Md Abu Jafar, at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, has submitted an unconditional apology. He submitted his response to the hospital director around 11 am on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Dr Barman said, “I received the notice and submitted my reply to the hospital director at 11 am. The DG is an elderly person and I behaved improperly. In my response, I have sincerely expressed regret and offered unconditional apology.”
The incident occurred on Saturday when DG Abu Jafar visited the hospital to attend a seminar. During an inspection, he asked why there was an operating table inside the casualty operation theatre, which led to an argument with Dr Barman. Following this, Dr Barman was relieved of duty and issued a show-cause notice.
Referring to the argument, Dr Barman said, “I expected treatment from him as a senior figure, but rather than knowing what problems exist, he asked why the table was inside.”
He also added, “Many of my friends have already become professors. My career has almost ended, but I haven't progressed due to various issues. If I get suspended over this, I will be happy.”
Assistant director (administration) of the hospital, Mainuddin Khan, said, “We have issued the show-cause notice and withdrawn him from duty. The final decision will be taken by the higher authorities.”
