Dia Mirza slams beauty industry, calls cosmetic surgery a 'trap'
Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has described cosmetic surgery as a "trap" for women, arguing that the beauty industry often profits by exploiting insecurities and unrealistic standards of appearance.
Speaking in a recent interview, the actress opened up about beauty, body image and the pressure women face to conform to conventional ideals in the entertainment industry.
Dia said the growing popularity of cosmetic procedures among women is deeply concerning, claiming the industry is largely driven by men and thrives on people's fears and self-doubt.
"It's frightening. More and more women are being drawn towards cosmetic surgery. But what's even more worrying is that the industry is largely run by men. The entire system is built on insecurity and fear," she said.
According to the actress, cosmetic surgery becomes a trap when women begin to believe they must alter their natural features in order to be considered beautiful, making it harder to embrace their authentic selves.
Reflecting on her early years in Bollywood, Dia revealed that she was repeatedly advised to change her appearance. She said she was encouraged to get lip fillers and breast augmentation to fit industry expectations.
The actress also made a striking claim that such comments never came from women.
"I was constantly told what I should change about my body to look more beautiful. But those comments never came from women. No woman ever told me, 'Your lips are too thin, get fillers,' or 'Your breasts are too small, enhance them.' Every such remark came from men. That's the truth," she said.
Dia's remarks have reignited conversations about beauty standards, body positivity and the pressure women face to meet appearance-driven expectations in the entertainment industry.
