Diamond-studded trophy worth Tk 2.5 million to arrive for BPL
Although matches of the Bangladesh Premier League BPL have already begun, the tournament trophy is yet to be unveiled.
The reason no trophy unveiling or photo session was held with team captains before the tournament is that the BPL trophy has not yet arrived in Bangladesh.
The issue has drawn criticism over the past two days. The Bangladesh Cricket Board said a new diamond-studded trophy is being brought from Dubai for this edition of the BPL. The cost of making and importing the trophy is around 25,000 US dollars, which is more than Tk 2.5 million in Bangladeshi currency.
Speaking to journalists in Sylhet on Friday, BCB vice-president and governing council member Sakhawat Hossain said the previous trophy was conventional. It was replaced once, but the new version did not meet quality standards. As a result, the board decided to replace it again with a new trophy.
The BCB said the trophy, manufactured by a Dubai-based company, may arrive in Bangladesh at any time during the ongoing tournament. Once the trophy reaches the country, an official unveiling programme will be organised, followed by a photo session with the team captains.
