As temperatures rise across the country, the problem of sweating has become a common daily reality. However, the strong odor associated with sweat is not only a physical discomfort for many, but also a cause of embarrassment in social situations. This problem is especially visible in public transport, workplaces and public gatherings.

According to doctors and skin experts, sweat odor is not a disease, but rather the result of a complex chemical reaction between sweat and bacteria on the skin. Although sweat itself is odorless, when it comes into contact with bacteria on the skin, proteins and fatty acids break down to form odorous compounds.

Why does sweat odor increase?

There are two types of sweat glands in the human body—one that works to control body temperature, while the other is active in certain areas. This second type of gland is more active, especially in the armpits, groin, neck and soles.

Experts say that there are several main reasons behind this bad smell—

-Excessive sweating and humid weather

-Inadequate cleanliness

-Use of synthetic fabrics

-Certain foods such as garlic, onion, red meat

-Stress and anxiety

-Hormonal changes

-In some cases, diabetes or metabolic problems

-Social and psychological effects

Sweat odor is not only a physical problem, but it also affects social behavior. Many people lose confidence in public, avoid raising their hands or standing close. In the long run, it can create stress, shame, and social distancing.

According to mental health experts, if such a problem continues for a long time, it can have a negative impact on a person's self-esteem.

Treatment and daily solutions to reduce sweat odor

Experts say that this problem can be controlled through proper lifestyle and care.

1. Regular bathing and cleanliness

It is important to bathe at least once a day. Bathing twice in summer reduces the growth of bacteria to a great extent. Using antibacterial soaps can give better results.

2. Choosing the right clothes

Cotton and light fabrics help the body breathe. Synthetic fabrics trap sweat, which increases odor.

3. Controlling diet

Reducing garlic, onions, spicy foods, and red meat can reduce the smell of sweat in many cases. Drinking enough water helps reduce toxins in the body.

4. Using antiperspirants and deodorants

Deodorants cover up odor, but antiperspirants play an effective role in reducing sweat.

5. Using natural ingredients

Natural ingredients like lemon, neem leaves, fenugreek water, or alum can sometimes help control bacteria. However, they should be used considering the sensitivity of the skin.

Home remedies and traditional methods

There are various home remedies popular in the society to eliminate the smell of sweat. Among them—

- Rubbing lemon on the armpits
- Using neem leaf paste
- Drinking fenugreek soaked water
- Using alum water

According to dermatologists, although these methods are helpful in some cases, they are not a substitute for treatment.

When is medical advice necessary?

If the odor of sweat is unusually strong and does not decrease even after maintaining regular hygiene, then it may be a sign of an underlying disease. Treatment is necessary, especially if there is diabetes, hormonal problems or skin infections.

Public health experts say that it is important to create awareness about the odor of sweat. It is not a matter of shame, but rather a part of health and care. If awareness about personal hygiene is increased in schools, colleges and workplaces, this problem will be largely controlled.
