DMP arrests 70 in special crime crackdown across Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the Detective Branch (DB) have arrested 70 people during a citywide special operation aimed at maintaining law and order and curbing criminal activities in the capital.

According to police, those detained include drug traffickers, muggers, robbers, extortionists, suspects linked to organised crime, and individuals accused of attempting to create public disorder.

The operation, conducted across different parts of the capital on Friday (June 26), saw various DMP units arrest 63 suspects, while the Detective Branch detained seven more in separate drives. Of the seven arrested by the DB, six were allegedly involved in drug trafficking, while one was wanted in cases related to robbery, mugging and dacoity.

DMP said the detainees include 39 suspected drug dealers, 13 individuals allegedly involved in robbery, mugging, terrorism and dacoity-related offences, three accused of attempting to create instability, and one listed as an extortionist. Several others were arrested in connection with various criminal offences.

Police said legal proceedings are underway against the suspects, with cases being filed at the respective police stations based on the evidence and information gathered during the operation.

The DMP said such special drives will continue on a regular basis as part of its efforts to strengthen public safety, prevent crime and maintain law and order across the capital.
