DMP gives 7 days to remove illegal night coach counters
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has set a seven-working-day deadline for the removal of unauthorised inter-district night coach counters to reduce traffic congestion in the capital. A notification signed by DMP Commissioner (Acting) Md Sarwar warned of strict action through mobile courts if counters are not relocated voluntarily within the deadline.
The notification stated that inter-district night coach counters operating without route permits, illegal parking and passenger loading and unloading are severely obstructing vehicular movement in the metropolis and creating congestion even at night. Instructions have been issued to operate inter-district bus counters, parking and passenger loading and unloading only at designated terminals—Gabtoli, Mohakhali and Sayedabad—and nowhere else in Dhaka metropolis.
Violation of the directive within the stipulated time will result in imprisonment, fines, cancellation of route permits and seizure of goods through mobile courts under the relevant sections of the Road Transport Act, 2018, the notification said.
