Dhaka Metropolitan Police has urged citizens to be cautious about fake SMS messages circulating on social media and mobile phones regarding traffic fines. Police have stated that these messages are completely fabricated and false.

The warning was issued in a press release on Monday, May 25.

The traffic division has clarified that it has no connection with these fake messages circulating on social media.

According to DMP, if a case is filed against any vehicle under the Road Transport Act-2018, a letter signed by the concerned officer of the traffic division or traffic technical unit is sent to the driver or owner's specified address. Additionally, SMS may be sent only from numbers 01320-042207 and 01320-042227 by the traffic division if necessary.

DMP also stated that fines for traffic violations can be paid online through the banking service 'Upay' and UCBL.

The traffic division never asks anyone for bank or mobile banking PIN codes, passwords or OTPs, DMP said.

For accurate traffic information, DMP advised contacting Delta-3 or the numbers 01320-042207, 01320-042227, and the national emergency service number 999.

The public has also been urged not to be influenced by misleading information circulating on social media.
