DMP's special instructions to make Eid journey comfortable
The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued special instructions to public transport owners-workers, passengers and pedestrians to ensure a safe and smooth Eid journey for millions of people heading home on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha.
Several instructions were given in the public notice issued on Sunday (May 24).
Things to do for public transport owners and workers:
1. Buses must leave the terminal according to the scheduled schedule.
2. Additional fares cannot be collected from passengers.
3. Passengers cannot be mistreated and harassed.
4. The same seat cannot be sold to more than one passenger.
5. Passengers cannot be carried on the roof of the bus.
6. Passengers cannot be carried in vehicles carrying goods and animals.
7. Vehicles must be driven within the speed limit, and reckless and excessive speed cannot be driven.
8. Overtaking is prohibited in areas where overtaking is prohibited, on bends and narrow bridges.
9. Driving while intoxicated, drowsy or physically ill is prohibited.
10. Driving without a valid driving license and updated documents is prohibited.
11. Mobile phones or earphones cannot be used while driving and loud music cannot be played in the car.
12. Driving on the wrong side of the road is prohibited.
13. Drivers must be appointed after verifying the validity of the driving license.
14. Drivers cannot be forced to drive for more than 5 hours continuously and 8 hours a day.
Passengers must follow:
1. Instead of standing on the road and getting on the bus, they must go to the specified terminal or counter and get on the bus.
2. No food or drink offered by a stranger is permitted.
3. Goods must be kept in their own custody or responsibility.
4. They must appear at the counter or terminal before the scheduled bus departure time.
5. Footbridges, underpasses or zebra crossings must be used when crossing the road.
6. It is not allowed to get on or off a moving vehicle and to travel as a passenger in a motor vehicle carrying goods or animals.
Pedestrians must do the following:
1. Cross the road using zebra crossings, footbridges and underpasses.
2. Do not cross the road while running or talking on a mobile phone.
3. Walk on the sidewalk.
In case of emergency, it is requested to contact the police control room of the terminal or the national emergency service number - 999.
