Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan has announced that individuals contributing to mosquito control efforts will be rewarded. "Those who perform well will be recognised and rewarded by the city corporation," he said.

He made the announcement during the inauguration of a training session on Integrated Vector Management (IVM) and basic pest control techniques, organised by the health department at the Gulshan Nagar Bhaban on Monday, March 30.

Calling for accelerated mosquito control activities, the DNCC administrator said city residents are suffering immensely due to mosquito nuisance. "We must work with utmost sincerity and commitment. Even if we are not 100 per cent successful, we can still come close to the desired target if we make genuine efforts. Greater emphasis must be placed on practical knowledge rather than theoretical understanding."

He noted that waste management is closely linked to mosquito control efforts. DNCC is also implementing waste management activities with increased vigour. "If everyone fulfils their responsibilities properly, it will be possible to provide some relief to city residents," he added.

DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury said the training focuses more on enhancing practical knowledge rather than theoretical understanding. Detailed guidance will be provided on the use of various equipment used in mosquito control.

The training programme was attended by 82 participants, including mosquito supervisors from each ward of DNCC. Various public health experts and entomologists conducted the two-day training session.
