Dorielton Gomes produced a brilliant hattrick as Bashundhara Kings came from behind to beat Mohammedan Sporting Club 3-2 in an entertaining Federation Cup final at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on Wednesday.

The victory secured a third consecutive Federation Cup crown for Kings and completed a domestic treble following their triumphs in the Bangladesh Football League and the season-opening Challenge Cup, where Mohammedan had also suffered a 4-1 defeat.

Although 11-time Federation Cup winners Mohammedan started brightly and troubled the star-studded Kings side early on, Dorielton once again demonstrated his value for the defending champions.

The Brazilian forward had already scored nine of Kings’ 14 goals in the five matches leading up to the final, and his hattrick took his tally to 12 goals from just six appearances, making the 36-year-old the tournament’s top scorer.

Mohammedan looked sharper and more motivated in the opening stages as Uzbek captain Muzaffarjon Muzzafarov stunned the home crowd with a superb free-kick from the right edge of the box to give his side the lead in the fourth minute.

The advantage, however, lasted only five minutes. Dorielton converted from the penalty spot after referee Jashim Uddin awarded Kings a spot-kick in what Mohammedan viewed as a controversial decision.

Both teams continued to attack in an entertaining first half. Mohammedan were awarded a penalty after Topu Barman brought down Saiful Hossain inside the box, but Muzzafarov’s effort was saved by Kings goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon in the 23rd minute.

Mohammedan regained the lead in the 35th minute when Sourav Dewan calmly finished inside the area after a clever dummy from Shariful off a cutback by Zahid Hossain Shanto.

Before the break, both sides threatened again as Srabon denied Jewel Mia, while Dorielton struck the crossbar with a header in stoppage time.

Kings emerged a transformed side after the interval and dominated the second half. Dorielton equalised 10 minutes after the restart, racing onto a through ball from Rakib Hossain before beating goalkeeper Sujan Hossain with a low finish.

The Brazilian completed his hattrick and sealed victory in the 79th minute with another low strike after latching onto a through pass from Shahriar Emon.
