DR Congo scored their first ever World Cup goal deep into first-half stoppage time to level the score at 1-1 against Portugal in their Group K opener at the NRG Stadium in Houston .

The equaliser came in the 45+5th minute when Arthur Masuaku played a short corner to Ngal'ayel Mukau, who delivered a cross onto Yoane Wissa's head. Wissa, left with too much time and space, guided his header past Diogo Costa into the top corner.

The goal came just moments after Samuel Moutoussamy had gone close with a shot for DR Congo. The historic strike has stunned Portugal, who had taken the lead through Joao Neves' sixth-minute header.

The match is Cristiano Ronaldo's record sixth World Cup appearance.
