Dr Ejaz laments loss of festive atmosphere at FDC
Popular actor and physician Dr Ejaz Ahmed has expressed regret over the current state of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) after coming to cast his vote in the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association election. He said the FDC, once vibrant with activity and a festive atmosphere, has now become largely lifeless.
Speaking to the media after casting his vote at the FDC on Friday, July 3, Dr Ejaz said, "It hurts when I remember the FDC during the shooting of Humayun Ahmed's films like 'Shrabon Megher Din', 'Dui Duari' or 'Shyamol Chhaya'. What a wonderful festive atmosphere there was then! Those who haven't seen those days will not understand this emptiness. Now when you enter the FDC, you don't see the same busyness, festivity and excitement."
Despite the pain of losing past glory, he expressed optimism about the country's film industry. Referring to the Artistes' Association election as a positive initiative to move cinema forward, he said a group of people are working sincerely to keep the film industry alive, and their efforts will surely bear fruit.
Dr Ejaz said audiences are now returning to cinemas more than before. "Good quality films are being made now, and audiences are accepting them. So I will never say that cinema is lagging behind. Rather, I believe our film industry is moving forward," he said.
He also stressed the importance of not giving in to despair. "If we become hopeless, we cannot move forward. I always want to work positively. I am optimistic about the future of cinema," he said.
He expressed hope that through the efforts of those working sincerely for the sake of cinema, the country's film industry will once again regain its lost glory.
