Dramatic first half sees Uruguay lead
An action-packed first half at the FIFA World Cup saw Uruguay fight back from behind to lead Cape Verde 2-1 at the interval. The underdogs sparked wild celebrations early on when midfielder Kevin Pina broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with a sensational, long-range free-kick.
Pina's audacious effort completely exposed a poorly formed Uruguayan wall, drilling the ball straight through to put Cape Verde ahead.
However, the South American giants slowly asserted their dominance and found a deserved equalizer in the 44th minute through Maximiliano Araújo. With momentum firmly on their side, La Celeste struck again deep into first-half stoppage time (45+6).
Manuel Ugarte initiated a gorgeous team move, finding Araújo at the back post, who cleverly headed it across for Agustín Canobbio to flick home from close range.
The dramatic turnaround leaves Uruguay in control as both teams head into the locker rooms.
