Dubai airport temporarily suspends flights

Flights at Dubai International Airport were temporarily suspended on Monday (March 16) following a fire caused by a drone attack near the airport, the Dubai city authorities said.

The airport is one of the busiest in the world, reports AFP.

According to the officials, the attack ignited a fuel tank, but the fire was later brought under control. No casualties have been reported so far.

The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement on X that the suspension was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff.

The incident comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Since the outbreak of the recent conflict, Iran has launched over 1,800 missiles and drones toward targets in the United Arab Emirates and other countries, making the UAE one of the most frequently targeted nations in the region.
