BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had contested from both Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies in the 13th parliamentary election. After winning, the Election Commission has declared the Bogura-6 seat vacant as he has opted to retain the Dhaka-17 seat. EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed formally declared the seat vacant through a gazette notification on Monday, February 16. The gazette stated that as elected candidate Tarique Rahman from constituency 41 Bogura-6 and 190 Dhaka-17 has expressed his intention to retain the Dhaka-17 seat under Article 71(2)(a) of the constitution, the Bogura-6 seat is hereby declared vacant from February 16. Tarique Rahman won from both constituencies in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Meanwhile, BNP has secured a massive majority in parliament by winning 212 seats.

দেশের জাতীয় সংসদে ত্রয়োদশ নির্বাচনে বিএনপির চেয়ারম্যান তারেক রহমান ঢাকা-১৭ ও বগুড়া-৬ আসনে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা করেছিলেন। জয়ী হওয়ার পর ঢাকা-১৭ আসন গ্রহণ করার কারণে বগুড়া-৬ আসন শূন্য ঘোষণা করেছে নির্বাচন কমিশন (ইসি)। সোমবার (১৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি) ইসি সচিব আখতার আহমেদ গেজেট প্রকাশ করে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে আসনটি শূন্য ঘোষণা করেন। গেজেটে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে, নির্বাচনী এলাকা ৪১ বগুড়া-৬ এবং ১৯০ ঢাকা-১৭ হইতে নির্বাচিত প্রার্থী তারেক রহমান সংবিধানের ৭১ অনুচ্ছেদ (২)(ক) অনুযায়ী ঢাকা-১৭ আসন গ্রহণের ইচ্ছা প্রকাশ করায় ১৬ ফেব্রুয়ারি থেকে বগুড়া-৬ আসন শূন্য ঘোষণা করা হলো। ত্রয়োদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে তারেক রহমান দুটি আসনেই জয়ী হয়েছেন। একই সঙ্গে বিএনপি ২১২ আসনে জয়ী হয়ে সংসদে বিপুল সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠতা অর্জন করেছে।
