ECNEC meeting underway with PM Chair

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is currently underway. The high-level meeting began at the Cabinet Division's Public Administration conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday morning (June 9).

Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is presiding over the session.

The information was confirmed by the Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary, Jahidul Islam Roni. This marks the 12th ECNEC meeting of the current fiscal year and the 4th under the present administration.

According to planning commission sources, a total of 12 development projects, including both new and revised initiatives, have been presented for approval. The estimated cost for these projects is around 8,106 crore BDT, with significant allocations directed toward infrastructure development, healthcare, information technology, and the power and energy sectors.

A key highlight of today's agenda is the establishment of the Chinese Economic Zone on 800 acres of land in Anwara, Chattogram. The project, valued at approximately 4,000 crore BDT, is expected to get the green light ahead of the Prime Minister's upcoming official visit to China.

Additionally, the second phase of the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute Expansion Project, aimed at boosting pediatric healthcare services at a cost of 344 crore BDT, alongside several crucial regional highway upgrade projects, is being discussed for final approval.
