Eddie Murphy honoured with lifetime achievement award
Hollywood legendary comedian Eddie Murphy has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the American Film Institute (AFI). He received this prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to cinema over nearly five decades.
The AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony was held on Saturday night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Murphy, 64, began his career as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s. After gaining widespread fame through the popular TV show 'Saturday Night Live', he made his mark on the big screen. He achieved superstar status with 'Beverly Hills Cop' in 1984, followed by 'Coming to America', 'The Nutty Professor' and the animated franchise 'Shrek'.
While accepting the honour, an emotional Murphy expressed gratitude to his family, children and colleagues. Overwhelmed to see his loved ones together, he became teary-eyed on stage.
The ceremony was attended by director Spike Lee, comedians Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock, 'Shrek' co-star Mike Myers, musician Stevie Wonder, comedian Kevin Hart, and many others. The awards ceremony will be broadcast on Netflix on May 31.
