Editors’ Council calls for ensuring journalists’ safety during election

The Editors’ Council has called for ensuring the safety of journalists working in the field while collecting and publishing election news.

The call was made in a statement signed by Editors’ Council president Nurul Kabir and general secretary Dewan Hanif Mahmud on Thursday.

The statement said journalists face various risks while performing their duties during elections. Ensuring the safety and protection of field-level journalists is extremely important during this period.

In this context, the Editors’ Council urged the state, the interim government, the Election Commission and law enforcement agencies to ensure adequate security measures for journalists during election coverage.

The council also appealed to political parties to play an effective role in ensuring journalists’ safety and protection.

The statement expressed hope that all concerned parties will understand the importance of the issue and take effective steps to ensure journalists’ safety during the election period.
