Editors Council forms newly elected committee

Nurul Kabir, editor of New Age, has been elected as the new president of the Editors Council. Dewan Hanif Mahmud, editor and publisher of Bonik Barta, has been elected general secretary.

The election took place on Thursday afternoon, November 13, during the council’s annual general meeting. Tasmima Hossain, editor of The Daily Ittefaq, has been elected vice president.

Other executive members elected are Mahfuz Anam, editor and publisher of The Daily Star, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, editor of Manabzamin, Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, Md Mozammel Haque, editor of Karatoa, and AMM Bahauddin, editor of The Daily Inqilab.

According to the council’s constitution, the newly elected committee will serve for the next two years.

Among others present at the general meeting were Shamsul Huq Zahid, editor of The Financial Express, AMM Bahauddin, editor of The Daily Inqilab, Shahed Mohammad Ali, editor of The Daily Samakal, Enam Ahmed, editor of The Business Standard, Hasan Hafiz, editor of Kaler Kantho, Abu Taher, editor of Bangladesh Pratidin, and Md Rezaul Karim Lotus, editor of Daily Sun.

Joining online were Dr M Ramizuddin Chowdhury, editor of Dainik Purbokone, and Rushye Mahmud, editor of Suprabhat Bangladesh.

Members present congratulated all newly elected committee members and expressed their commitment to further strengthen the council’s activities through mutual cooperation in the future.
