Eight killed in train-bus collision in Thailand
At least eight people have been killed and 25 others injured after a train collided with a passenger bus in Bangkok, Thailand. The bus caught fire following the crash, which occurred around 3:30 pm on Saturday, May 16, near the Makkasan Airport Rail Link station.
Thai media outlet The Nation reported the information citing police and rescue officials.
The multi-vehicle collision involving a train, a bus, a private car and a motorcycle occurred between the Rama 9 crossing on Asok-Din Daeng Road and the Asok-Phetchaburi crossing. The bus caught fire immediately after the impact, and the flames quickly spread to nearby vehicles.
Firefighters and rescue teams from Ratchathewi district rushed to the scene and attempted to control the fire using hose pipes. Rescue workers also began recovering victims from the mangled vehicles.
The 25 injured have been taken to various local hospitals. Several are in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll may rise further. Local police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
