Election acceptability does not depend on percentage: EC Sanaullah

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Muhammad Sanaullah has stated that free and fair elections will be held in the four constituencies of Patuakhali, and that the Election Commission faces no challenges in this regard.

He made these comments to journalists on Friday after attending a meeting of the district's 'Law and Order Cell and Vigilance & Observation Team'.

He said that the acceptability of an election does not depend on any percentage. "We want 100 per cent of people to come to the polling centres. The environment in Patuakhali is excellent, so the election here will be smooth," he added.

When asked about government employees campaigning for the referendum, he stated that while awareness about the referendum can be raised, no one can be directed on how to vote 'yes' or 'no'.

He asserted that a conducive environment has been created for the elections, and people will participate spontaneously. While acknowledging some isolated incidents, he noted that overall conditions are good. He urged everyone to act with restraint, emphasising that life in society continues after the election.
