The official campaign for the Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 by-elections begins today (March 16).

Candidates in both constituencies can campaign until 7:30am on April 7, ahead of the scheduled polling on April 9. Voting will take place from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

On Sunday, March 15, the respective returning officers allocated symbols to the candidates, marking the formal start of the election campaign.

The by-elections were called after the death of a candidate in these constituencies during the 13th National Parliament elections on February 12, which led the Election Commission to suspend voting and later announce a new schedule.

In Sherpur-3, one candidate, Abul Taleb Md. Saifuddin of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, withdrew, leaving four candidates in the continuous riot: Md. Masudur Rahman (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami), Md. Aminul Islam (Independent), Md. Mahmudul Haq Rubel (BNP), and Md. Mizanur Rahman (Bangladesh Socialist Party–Marxist).

In Bogura-6, three candidates are contesting: Md. Abidur Rahman (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami), Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha (BNP), and Md. Al Alim Talukdar (Bangladesh Development Party).

During the February 12 general election, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman won both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 seats. As parliament rules prohibit holding two seats simultaneously, he retained Dhaka-17 and vacated Bogura-6, prompting the by-election schedule.
