Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has expressed hope that the schedule for Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary election will be announced in the second week of December.

He made the remarks while visiting a “mock voting” demonstration at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Government Girls’ High School in Dhaka on Saturday (November 29).

The CEC noted that public campaigns on the upcoming referendum have not yet gained momentum but said the government and the Election Commission will jointly launch extensive awareness initiatives, for which preparations are underway.

Commenting on law and order, he said the situation has “improved significantly” compared to the past, with police, Ansar, BGB, RAB, and the army actively engaged.

Explaining the purpose of the mock voting, the CEC said the initiative aims to demonstrate the environment required for an ideal voting process. As many people have not witnessed polling procedures closely over the last 15 years, the mock exercise is intended to familiarise citizens with the process and assess the time required to use two different types of ballots.
