Elias Kanchan's death report is false, family confirms
False reports claiming legendary Bangladeshi actor and Nirapad Sarak Chai (NSC) chairman Elias Kanchan has died have circulated on social media, prompting his family and organisation to confirm that he is alive and in stable condition.
Kanchan is currently in London receiving treatment under the supervision of doctors, according to his family and NSC.
They also urged the public and media not to be misled by the unverified reports.
His family said some social media users had deliberately circulated the false information, creating unnecessary anxiety among his relatives, fans and well-wishers.
NSC strongly condemned the misinformation, with its central committee and representatives from around 120 branches across the country issuing statements protesting the rumour.
The organisation also called for those responsible to be identified and brought under legal action.
NSC leaders said spreading unverified information about sensitive matters such as illness or death was unethical and could cause serious distress to families and followers.
Kanchan has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. He travelled to London in April last year for advanced treatment and underwent a complex brain surgery in August. Doctors later diagnosed him with brain cancer after the tumour could not be completely removed.
He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and oral therapy in London as advised by his doctors, according to the information provided by his family.
