Emmanuel Macron to leave politics after term ends
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will not remain active in politics after his current term ends. The French constitution allows a president to serve two consecutive terms, which will conclude in 2027.
According to a media report, Macron expressed his desire to stay outside of politics after his responsibilities as president end, just as he was not involved in politics before becoming president.
While speaking to students in the Greek Cypriot administration, Macron said that his biggest challenge in his final term is to maintain and advance previous successes, while reconsidering the work that was not completed properly. He stated that balancing achievements and unfinished reforms is now the primary task.
Macron visited Nicosia for an informal meeting of the European Council held on Thursday and Friday. The Cyprus administration holds the presidency of the European Council for the first half of the year, as the presidency rotates among member states every six months.
