16 held over inciting violence in Ashulia RMG factories
A team of joint forces arrested 16 people on charges of provoking unrest in the Ashulia industrial area of Savar, Dhaka.
The Ashulia police confirmed the arrests on Sunday afternoon.
The joint force, which included police personnel, conducted the arrests late Saturday night from various locations in Ashulia.
According to law enforcement, they were involved in creating instability in the industrial zone, including causing disturbances in several factories over the past few days. They were presented in court following their arrest.
Ashulia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique said: “Due to the recent unrest in the garment industry, joint operations have been ongoing for several days. As a result, 16 individuals were arrested on Saturday. Two cases have been filed against them on charges of destabilizing the garment sector and assaulting workers. They have been sent to court.”
For some time, criminal elements in the Ashulia industrial area have been involved in various disruptive activities, including vandalizing factories and attacking workers to destabilize the industry. Joint force operations are ongoing to bring those responsible to justice.
