8-year-old child raped in Dhamrai, culprit held

An 8-year-old madrasa student was allegedly raped in Dhamrai on Sunday. The police arrested the accused following the incident.

The arrested Abul Hossain is the son of deceased Korban Ali of Sialkul village in Suapur Union of Dhamrai Upazila.

According to the police and locals, the accused, Abul Hossain (60), lured the girl to his home by asking her to collect plums and then assaulted her. Upon discovering the crime, locals apprehended Abul, beat him, and handed him over to the police.

The child's mother said, "Hearing my daughter's screams, those nearby came to her aid, captured Abul, and handed him over to the police. Upon learning of the incident, I immediately took my daughter to a local hospital and later transferred her to Dhaka Medical College for further treatment."

Dhaka Medical College Outpost In-charge Mohammad Faruqe said, "A girl referred from Dhamrai Health Complex was treated and released. Initial findings suggest she was a rape victim, and further details will be available once the medical report is completed."

Md. Ataul Babu, sub-inspector of Dhamrai Police Station, confirmed the arrest on Monday morning (February 17).

He said, "On information, we arrested the accused with the help of locals and brought him to the police station. Legal proceedings are currently underway."
