Australia approves social media ban on under-16s
Australia has passed a proposal to ban social media use for children under 16.
The proposal was approved in the upper house of Australia's Parliament, the Senate, on Thursday (November 28), with 34 senators voting in favor and 19 against, according to BBC.
The proposal, which will now be sent to the lower house of Parliament (the House of Representatives), will undergo review and necessary amendments before becoming law.
The proposal, titled "The Social Media Minimum Age," will begin a trial period in January, with the full ban expected to take effect within one year of the trial.
