If Dr. Bhupen Hazarika were alive, he might have been embarrassed by the events unfolding in Bangladesh's sports arena! The renowned artist's song "This world is a playground," which includes the line "sports is a field of peace," does not seem to apply at all in the 149,210 square kilometers of this land. The National Sports Council (NSC) recognizes over 50 sports federations, but the message in that famous song by the Indian artist has not been established anywhere. The risks here cannot be measured on a Richter scale or a barometer. A cautionary tale can be found in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup, where Bangladesh lost their opening match to China by a staggering 17-0 margin. On the global stage, such powerhouses could be even more ruthless. Thus, while qualifying for the World Cup is undoubtedly a joyous occasion, it’s critical to remember that the team must be adequately prepared for the challenge ahead.

A crucial tactic in Kabaddi is the ability to drag the raider down. This tendency to drag people behind is seen across various sectors in the country. Is this the reason why Kabaddi has been recognized as the national sport? The question might sound humorous, but it’s not irrelevant. If this statement offends you, take a deeper look into the sports sector, and the image of dragging people down from behind will become clear. This trend became evident after the formation of ad hoc committees in 9 national sports federations.
