Nepal, the Himalayan daughter, is now effectively in turmoil. The country has no functioning government. The coalition government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli collapsed after only 48 hours of protest. In July 2024, KP Sharma Oli took oath as Prime Minister for the fourth time. His party, UML (Unified Marxist-Leninist), formed a government in alliance with the Nepali Congress.
The news of Anjanda’s passing came as a shock. Unbelievable. It’s hard to accept that filmmaker Zahidur Rahim Anjan, our beloved Anjanda, is no longer with us. We will no longer see him at Aziz Market, Shahbagh, or at various film festivals and seminars.
On January 14, 2025, at the main auditorium of the National Museum during the 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival, I watched Shoroter Joba, a film directed by popular television actress Kusum Sikder. This film marks Kusum Sikder’s debut as a director. She also wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogue for the film. Shoroter Joba was produced under the banner of Impress Telefilm Limited and Pahardanga Pictures, jointly by Kusum Sikder and Faridur Reza Sagar.
Today, I watched Priyo Malati, directed by the young filmmaker Shankha Dasgupta, at Basundhara Cineplex. After a long time, and more specifically after watching Pantha Prasad's Sabitri, I watched another excellent Bengali film today. After watching this film, I have truly fallen in love with Mehazabien! Such beautiful and natural acting!
