The Reuters news agency is reporting that Israel’s defence minister, Israel Katz, has said Iran’s security chief Ali Larijani had been killed in an Israeli airstrike overnight (see post at 08.56 for more details).

Drone and rocket attacks targeted the US embassy in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, early on Tuesday morning, March 17. Simultaneously, another attack on a house, believed to be housing Iranian advisers, killed four people.
Afghanistan has accused Pakistan's military of launching an airstrike on a hospital treating drug users in Kabul, killing at least 400 people. Pakistan dismissed the claim as false and aimed at misleading public opinion, saying it only targeted military installations in Kabul and Nangarhar province on Monday, March 16.
US President Donald Trump has called for commercial shipping to remain normal in the Strait of Hormuz, but the UK, Germany, Japan and Australia have rejected the call outright.
