Freedom House survey
Bangladesh lacks full freedom of internet use
In its survey, the US research institute Freedom House stated that internet freedom in Bangladesh is classified as limited or "partially free."
The report titled "Freedom on the Net 2024", released on October 16, rated Bangladesh 40 out of 100 for internet freedom, down from 41 points last year.
Among South Asian SAARC countries, only Pakistan (27) ranks lower than Bangladesh in internet freedom. Sri Lanka (53) and India (50) score higher. Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, and Afghanistan were not included in the survey. Iraq, a war-torn nation in the Middle East, shares the same score as Bangladesh.
Iceland topped Freedom House's ranking with 94 points, followed by Estonia (92), and both Chile and Canada, which scored 86.
At the bottom of the ranking are China and Myanmar, both scoring 9 points.
