Bangladeshi 'monk' arrested at Gaya airport while heading to Thailand

A Bangladeshi citizen named Babu Jo Barua, also known as Rajib Dutta, was arrested at Gaya Airport in Bihar. According to airport sources, he had been living in India for eight years under the guise of a Buddhist monk after illegally entering the country. He was staying at a monastery in Gaya.

Sources reveal that Rajib Dutta arrived at Gaya Airport last Friday (October 18) to travel to Thailand. During a security check, discrepancies in his documents were discovered, revealing that he had been using fake papers to deceive authorities. The investigation showed he was trying to travel to Thailand with a forged passport and visa.

Under pressure from security personnel, he admitted to living in Gaya as a Buddhist monk for the past eight years and confirmed that he is actually a Bangladeshi citizen.

Police sources indicated that after his arrest, authorities seized multiple passports with different names, a fake ID card, a counterfeit PAN card, and various other documents. Additionally, they recovered 1,560 Thai baht, 411 US dollars, and 3,800 Indian rupees in foreign currency.

Sources further stated that Rajib has been charged under sections 318(4), 336(3), and 340(2) of the Indian Constitution and Indian Passport Act 12. An investigation is still ongoing.
