In a significant move to enhance the efficiency and integrity of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced it will directly oversee player payments and logistics for all participating players, both domestic and international.

The BCB media department confirmed this information in a press release issued today (February 8).

According to the press release, in response to recent challenges, the BCB will manage the contract and match fees of all overseas players signed through the BPL Draft, ensuring timely and transparent payments.

The 11th edition of the BPL concluded with Fortune Barishal claiming back-to-back titles by defeating Chittagong Kings in the final. However, the tournament's major issue was the non-payment of players. Rajshahi, in particular, has failed to clear dues for both local and foreign players. Despite promises to settle payments by February 10 in three installments, the franchise missed the second installment deadline.

Among Rajshahi's foreign recruits, Sri Lankan Lahiru Samarakoon was signed from the draft, while players like Zimbabwe's Ryan Burl and Pakistan's Mohammad Haris were direct signings. So, according to the BCB's latest press release, while the board would take responsibility for Samarakoon's payment, it won't do the same for Burl and Haris.

Additionally, the board will handle all logistical arrangements to ensure the smooth return of international players to their respective countries after their BPL commitments.

The BCB is also set to implement more stringent financial protocols in collaboration with the league's franchises, aiming to safeguard players’ interests and streamline payment processes.

"These initiatives underscore the BCB's commitment to upholding the integrity of the BPL and providing a professional experience for all players, both domestic and international. The BCB will continue to engage with all stakeholders to strengthen the operational and financial aspects of the league," BCB president Faruque Ahmed was quoted as saying in the press release.
