Country's largest Durga idol immersion ceremony to take place in Cox's Bazar.
Preparations are underway in Cox's Bazar for the largest Durga idol immersion ceremony in Bangladesh. Hundreds of idols will be brought from various pandals across the district to Laboni Point on Cox's Bazar beach for immersion on October 13, following the conclusion of Vijayadashami. Along with this grand event, millions of people are expected to gather at the beach to witness the immersion. Final preparations are in full swing at the beach.
Like the rest of the country, the public Durga Puja festival is being celebrated in a joyous atmosphere in Cox's Bazar. This year, 321 puja pandals have been set up in the district, with 151 conducting idol worship and 170 holding 'Ghat Puja.'
Pavel Das, a visitor attending the puja, expressed some concern about the country's security situation this year but remained hopeful, saying, "Durga Puja comes only once a year. I hope we can celebrate the puja and the immersion ceremony peacefully with our family, sharing the joy."
The biggest Durga idol immersion ceremony in Cox's Bazar is attended by thousands of people, filling the beach to capacity. While some isolated incidents across the country have created unease among the Hindu community during this year's Durga Puja, Udoy Shankar Pal Mithu, the acting president of the District Puja Celebration Council, urged his community not to be afraid, as the administration has ramped up security measures.
After visiting several puja pandals in Cox's Bazar, Lt. Colonel HM Sajjad Hossain, Commander of RAB-15, assured that stringent security measures have been taken to ensure a smooth celebration.
He stated that there are no high-risk puja pandals in Cox's Bazar, but military, police, and RAB patrols have been increased around the pandals. Intelligence teams are actively working to prevent any untoward incidents during the puja and the immersion ceremony, and a control room has been opened to monitor the situation.
He further urged everyone to remain vigilant to prevent any unwanted incidents, especially those based on rumors.
Additionally, he emphasized that the authorities have put comprehensive security measures in place to ensure the peaceful and smooth execution of the country’s largest idol immersion event at Cox's Bazar beach.
