Dubai, United Arab Emirates is going to build the largest airport in the world by constructing a terminal with huge passenger capacity at Al Maktoum International Airport.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, has approved the final design of the airport's new passenger terminal. He said that the construction of the terminal will cost 3 thousand 485 million dollars.

Maktoum said that when the construction of this terminal is completed, Al Maktoum will be the world's largest international airport with a capacity of 260 million passengers. It will also be five times larger than Dubai International Airport.

Rashid Al-Maktoum said that all operations of Dubai Airport will be transferred to Al Maktoum in the coming days. He said that the airport will have 400 terminal gates and 5 runways.

Major local airline Emirates and its smaller partner flydubai will relocate to the airport.

Moreover, all other partner airlines traveling from Dubai to other countries of the world will also operate from here, said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman of Dubai's state-owned airlines Emirates.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said: "This move will further strengthen Dubai's position as a leading aviation hub on the world stage."
