Fiber@Home gets NTTN license for 15 years

Fiber@Home, one of the top Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) operators of the country's telecom sector, has been awarded a renewed NTTN license for a period of 15 years.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the regulatory body of the country’s telecom sector, has granted and handed over the license to Fiber@Home on Thursday (May 2) morning.

BTRC Chairman Engineer Md Mohiuddin Ahmed handed over the renewed license to Brigadier General (Retd) Md Rafiqur Rahman, managing director of the Fiber@Home.

According to BTRC sources, a total of six NTTN licenses have been granted from BTRC so far to three government and three private institutions.

]Fiber@Home was the first private company in the country nto receive the license. It received the license first on January 7, 2009, for 15 years. The license expired on January 6 last. Before the expiry date, the company submitted an application for license renewal on November 12 last.

At the license handover ceremony, BTRC Vice-Chairman Md Aminul Haque, Commissioner of Spectrum Division Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, Commissioner of Systems and Services Division Md Delwar Hossain, Director General of BTRC’s Legal and Licensing Department Ashish Kumar Kundu along with senior officials of VTRC and Fiber@Home, among others, also attended the license handover ceremony.
