The readymade garment (RMG) workers who blockaded the road in front of Sainik Club at Banani in the capital on Saturday (May 4) morning protesting factory closure have withdrawn the blockade after two hours. Traffic flow is normal now on the road, said Banani Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Sahan Haque. He said, “The workers protested against the closure of a garment factory named Apparel Industries Limited. They blockaded the road at 8:00am and left the road at 10:00am after we successfully convinced them.” Earlier, severe traffic jam was created on the road from Bijay Smarani to the airport due to the blockade.

কারখানা বন্ধের প্রতিবাদে দুই ঘণ্টা সড়ক অবরোধের পর রাস্তা ছেড়েছে পোশাক শ্রমিকরা। এতে বনানীর সৈনিক ক্লাবের সামনের সড়ক থেকে শুরু করে আশপাশের সড়কে যান চলাচল স্বাভাবিক হয়। শনিবার (৪ মে) সকালে রাজধানীর বনানী এলাকায় এ ঘটনা ঘটে। বনানী থানার ওসি কাজী সাহান হক এ বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করেছেন। তিনি জানান, অ্যাপারেল ইন্ডাস্ট্রিজ লিমিটেডের একটি কারখানা বন্ধের প্রতিবাদ করেন শ্রমিকরা। তারা সকাল ৮টার পর থেকে বনানীর সৈনিক ক্লাবের সামনে অবরোধ করেন। সেখানে ১০টা পর্যন্ত ছিলেন তারা। পরে শ্রমিকদের সঙ্গে কথা বলার পর তারা সড়ক থেকে সরে যায়। এখন যান চলাচল স্বাভাবিক রয়েছে। এর আগে কারখানা বন্ধের প্রতিবাদে সকাল ৮টার কিছু পর সড়ক অবরোধ করে বিক্ষোভ করতে থাকেন কারখানাটির শ্রমিকরা। এর ফলে বিজয় সরণি থেকে বিমানবন্দর পর্যন্ত সড়কে তীব্র যানজটের সৃষ্টি হয়।
