Gold medalist shooter Sadia Sultana dies
For nearly a decade, gold medalist shooter Syeda Sadia Sultana had been away from the spotlight. After suffering severe burns in a fire in 2017, she faced prolonged health challenges. She passed away on Monday while receiving treatment in the ICU of a hospital in Chattogram.
Sadia's father, Abdus Sattar, confirmed the matter. He said, "My Sadia is no more. She left us around 2:00 pm. We are now taking her body out of the hospital."
Sadia had an illustrious shooting career, winning a gold medal in the 10-meter air rifle event at the 2010 Commonwealth Shooting Championship. She also secured another gold in the team event in Delhi, partnering with Sharmin Akter Ratna. Earlier that year, Sadia claimed a gold medal in the same event at the South Asian Games. Her final achievement came in 2013 at the Bangladesh Games, where she excelled in the 10-meter air rifle event.
However, after these successes, Sadia disappeared from the shooting scene in the country. For the past 11 years, she had been completely detached from the sports world.
