Indian fishermen rescue 12 Bangladeshi fishermen from drowning at sea

Indian fishermen rescued 12 Bangladeshi fishermen from rough seas and brought them to the Patharpratima area, located on the Bay of Bengal's border in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. The rescue occurred on the afternoon of Thursday (September 12), from Kendua Island. However, one fisherman is still missing.

Sundarban District Superintendent of Police Koteswara Rao Nalavath confirmed the matter.

An Indian trawler, 'FB Parmita,' discovered Bangladeshi fishermen near Kendua Island on Thursday afternoon while returning to the coast due to bad weather. The fishermen were rescued and broughtt to a local hospital under Patharpratima Police Station for medical examination,

Hospital authorities reported that all the fishermen are in good health.

Indian fishermen are reportedly attempting to contact the Bangladesh Coast Guard.

Koteswara Rao Nalavath said, "The rescued fishermen will be brought before the court, and further actions will be taken according to the court's instructions."

Mohammad Sharif, a sailor on the Bangladeshi trawler 'FB Kaushik,' reported, "Our trawler capsized due to a sudden wave. We stayed afloat by clinging to a bamboo pole from the trawler. We did not leave each other behind, but Ibrahim Talukdar is still missing. We have notified the matter to our families."

Regarding the incident, Satinath Patra, General Secretary of the Sundarban Sea Fishermen Workers Union, said, "On Thursday afternoon, while returning from the sea, Indian fishermen spotted several individuals floating in the water and promptly went to their rescue. Twelve fishermen were saved, but it has been reported that one remains missing."

Bijan Maity, Secretary of the Kakdwip Fishermen Welfare Association, said, "We urge the administration to ensure that the Bangladeshi fishermen can return home safely."
