BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that no division should be created over the next national election.

“We have been able to bring down the fascist government through a mass uprising. Now we have to be careful. We have to go towards the elections through responsible behaviour. We have to be careful that no division or division is created over the elections,” he said at a book cover unveiling ceremony at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Wednesday (December 26) afternoon.

Mirza Fakhrul said, "Today, everyone is again in agreement that, given the political culture in Bangladesh, we should have a system in place so that there is a neutral government during elections. We are moving in that direction."

He said, "We believe that a neutral election acceptable to all will be held in Bangladesh by next December and Bangladesh will move forward on the democratic path. It will make the path of building a democratic state in Bangladesh easier."

Mentioning that Ziaur Rahman initiated reforms at first in the country, he said, “Bakshal was a closed one-party regime. He brought back multi-party democracy and free press in the country. Many have forgotten this now. Many of the young generation may not know that all newspapers were closed through Bakshal. Martyred President Ziaur Rahman freed it, restored basic rights.”

Mirza Fakhrul said Begum Khaleda Zia restored parliamentary democracy through changes. She brought the provisions of the non-party caretaker government during the election period and incorporated them into the constitution.

Mentioning that there was a conspiracy to distort history during fascism, he said, "They (Awami League) have been distorting that history for 15 years. Happily, no matter how much one wants, real history cannot be forgotten or distorted. Today, it has been established that we can know real history only through free thought.”
