Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said that It is not the Election Commission's job to oversee what foreigners say. He said this in response to statements from some Western countries asserting that Sunday's national election was not free and fair. "It is no time to consider what others say. It doesn't even fall under the scope of my job," he said while talking to reporters at his office in Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon. In separate statements today, the United States claimed the election was not free and fair, while the United Kingdom said the democratic process was incomplete.

বিদেশিরা কী বলছে তা তদারকি করা নির্বাচন কমিশনের কাজ নয় বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন নির্বাচন কমিশনার মোঃ আলমগীর। দ্বাদশ জাতীয় নির্বাচন অবাধ ও সুষ্ঠু হয়নি বলে দাবি করা কয়েকটি পশ্চিমা দেশের বক্তব্যের জবাবে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন। মঙ্গলবার (৯ জানুয়ারি) আগারগাঁওয়ের নির্বাচন ভবনে তার কার্যালয়ে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে ইসি আলমগীর বলেন, "অন্যরা কী বলে তা বিবেচনা করার এটা সময় নয়। এটা আমাদের কাজের পরিধির মধ্যেও পড়ে না।" এদিকে আজ পৃথক বিবৃতিতে বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচন নিয়ে নেতিবাচক মন্তব্য করে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র ও যুক্তরাজ্য। মার্কিনীরা জানায়, নির্বাচন অবাধ ও সুষ্ঠু হয়নি। যুক্তরাজ্যও বলছে নির্বাচন প্রক্রিয়া ত্রুটিপূর্ণ ছিল।
