Pakistan launched multiple attacks along India's western border, India says
Pakistan's armed forces carried out "multiple attacks" with drones and other weapons along India's entire western border on Thursday night and early Friday, the Indian army said, amid escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
The long-time rivals have been trading blows since Wednesday, when India launched strikes on several sites in Pakistan it described as "terrorist camps," in response to a deadly attack in Kashmir last month that New Delhi claims had Islamabad's backing.
Pakistan rejected the accusations, but both countries have since engaged in cross-border firing, shelling, and launched drones and missiles into each other’s airspace, resulting in nearly four dozen deaths. The Indian army also reported that Pakistani troops had committed "numerous ceasefire violations" along the de facto border in Kashmir, a region that is divided between the two nations but claimed in its entirety by both, reports Reuters.
"The drone attacks were effectively repulsed and befitting reply was given to the CFVs (ceasefire violations)," the army said, adding all "nefarious designs" would be responded to with "force".
Pakistan has yet to respond to India's statement. Previously, Islamabad denied being behind attacks on Pathankot city in Punjab, Srinagar in the Kashmir valley, and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, calling the accusations "unfounded" and "politically motivated."
