Poet Jahidul Haque is no more

Poet Jahidul Haque has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un). Today, at 12:40 PM, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Poet’s brother in law Kazi Jahid Hasan confirms the news, stating, 'On January 1, Jahidul Haque fell ill. Later, he was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. Doctors said that he suffered a stroke.

He also said after being kept at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His condition deteriorated there, and today at 12:40 PM, he passed away.

Remarkably, he is the lyricist of the popular song 'Amar E Duti Chokh Pathor o Noy, Tobu Keno Khoye Khoye Jay.' He passed his secondary school examination in 1963 from Chittagong's Nogendranath High School. After that, in 1966, he completed his Higher Secondary education from Feni Government College, and in 1969, he obtained a Bachelor's degree from the University of Dhaka.

Jahidul Haque worked as a fellow at the Bangla Academy and as a senior editor and broadcaster at Radio Deutsche Welle. He served as the Senior Assistant Editor at Daily Sangbad. He also held the position of Deputy Director at Bangladesh Betar (Radio).

Jahidul Haque has published a total of 18 books, including poetry, novels, short stories, and songs. His first poetry book, titled ‘Pocket bhorti Megh’(Pocketful of clouds) was published in 1982. In addition to that, among his notable published works are ‘Tomar Homar’, ‘Neel Dootabas’, and ‘E Utsobe Ami Eka’.
