RMG workers blockade road in Banani

Readymade garment (RMG) workers have blockaded a road at Banani in the capital protesting the closure of their factory.

Additional police have been deployed to control the situation, said police sources.

Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Sahan Haque told the media, “The workers are protesting the closure of a factory named Apparel Garments Limited. They blocked the road in front of Sainik Club from 8:30am. We have tried to convince them, yet they are not moving off the road.”

“Meanwhile, due to road blocking, severe traffic jams have been created from Mohakhali to the airport portion of the Dhaka-Mymensingh road, creating immense sufferings for the passengers. Especially those who have left for the airport are worried whether they will reach their destination on time,” he said.

The OC said, “We have contacted the owner of the garment factory. They will discuss with the workers when they come to the spot. Efforts are being made to normalize the situation and free the road for vehicular movement.”
